FM Global Contributes $1 Million in Employee and Corporate Giving to United Way of RI

Providence, RI (February 12, 2009): United Way of Rhode Island has announced that Johnston, R.I.-based, FM Global has raised more than $1 million in combined employee and corporate giving during its recent United Way campaign. FM Global is Rhode Island’s largest private company, one of the world’s largest business property insurers and continues to be UWRI’s top corporate donor.

“At FM Global, we believe supporting the United Way is the most efficient and effective way to provide financial resources to where in the community it is needed most,” said FM Global Chairman and CEO Shivan Subramaniam. “As a company with a unique business focus on risk management, we are pleased to help the United Way with its goal of creating long-lasting change in the community by helping to prevent problems from occurring.”

During the past five years, FM Global has raised more than $4 million via support from employees, retirees, the company and special events. FM Global is unique in that for every $1 an employee donates the company matches it with $2.

“This is truly a noteworthy milestone,” said UWRI President and CEO Anthony Maione. “It has been several years since we have seen a local company achieve a $1 million campaign, and the generosity of FM Global and its employees is particularly appreciated now when the money can be used to assist those who are struggling.”       

FM Global spends much of the summer planning FM Global’s campaign, coordinating a variety of employee activities to stimulate contributions and participation.

“It is evident FM Global’s employees understand the extent of need today in the community,” added Subramaniam. “Their charity, especially given the state of the economy, demonstrates an extraordinary level of concern and commitment.”
