Help Starts Here, RI

Basic Supports

  • More than 15,000 Rhode Islanders received basic supports help through United Way of Rhode Island-funded programs
  • Nearly 2,000 new affordable housing units secured
  • $17 million in tax credits and refunds returned to Rhode Island workers through Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)
  • On March 14, we held a Housing For All Summit. Nearly 300 Rhode Islanders attended this community workshop to create solutions for making housing more affordable:

Learning Through Life

  • 1,600 children participated in the Hasbro Summer Learning Initiative in 2015
  • 2,200 people found help looking for education and job training opportunities through the Rhode Island Resource Hub

Community Engagement

  • Our Young Leaders Circle (YLC) raised $98,000 for summer learning and community impact
  • YLC also had a total of 15 events of volunteering, mentoring, learning and networking
  • Our Women’s Leadership Council (WLC) invested $50,000 to increase local girls’ access to STEM programs
  • And WLC made gifts of $320,000 to our annual United Way campaign
  • We had 750 volunteers
  • They volunteered 4,217 hours = $95,093
  • Our volunteers collected and distributed 87,000 children’s books in 4 years
