An Inspirational Partnership.
Celebrating its 200th anniversary in 2019, BankNewport’s service to the community extends far beyond savings accounts, investments, and loans. For decades, the bank has supported United Way of Rhode Island’s mission, and their employees have volunteered across the state.
In recognition of this extraordinary commitment, BankNewport’s President and CEO, Sandra Pattie, will accept this year’s Corporate Partnership Award on behalf of her entire team at our 93rd Annual Celebration on Thursday, October 10.
It was 30 years ago that Sandra began working at the bank, “I was looking for an agency to volunteer with; Peter Damon, BankNewport’s CEO at the time, whole-heartedly suggested United Way of Rhode Island,” she says. “It was a match made in heaven — United Way sparked my passion for volunteering and for their work,” she continues.
Sandra’s passion for giving only grew, which is reflected in the bank’s culture under her leadership. According to her, “It’s important [for] me to share my spirit of service with our team. We create opportunities for our team members to strengthen communities and enrich the lives of people across [the state].”
Among these opportunities is a tradition BankNewport calls service week, “We highlight community issues that our employees may not otherwise be aware of. In many ways, it’s where need and impact come to life for them,” she says.
Sandra is especially proud of this past year, saying “BankNewport has awarded over $1 million in grants and contributions, including through our We’re All In Giving Program,” she says. “During this special program, we supported 200 local grassroots agencies by donating $1,000 to each.”
Sandra says, “It was inspirational learning [how] these groups impact so many of our neighbors through their tireless energy, work, and commitment.”
With so much work still left to be done in Rhode Island, the nonprofit sector and the business community must work even closer together. We’re thankful that our partners at BankNewport are an inspiration to many other companies in the state and serve as an example of what can be accomplished through hard work, dedication, and the willingness to give back.
