Volunteer with your family during April vacation.

Reading is vital to a child’s academic success, and having books at home is an important part of learning to read.

During April vacation, our Family Volunteer Day, Literacy Rocks!, focuses on helping children fall in love with reading. Families of all sizes and ages join the fun of creating one-of-a-kind literacy kits that are donated to local children in United Way-sponsored programs.

Each kit contains a new or very gently-used children’s book, as well as reading aids such as puppets, games, or other props inspired by the story. Families have a blast creating the kits: each one becomes its own work of art.

Consider spending some time this April volunteering with your family, and join us in our efforts to encourage a love of reading for young Rhode Islanders.
