Take action

Each June, communities across the United States gather for Day of Action and focus on issues that matter most to them.

For our Day of Action, we invite Rhode Islanders to join us as we sort, label, and package the books collected during our annual Children’s Book Drive.

Why childhood literacy?

  • Children who are not proficient in reading by the end of third grade are four times less likely to graduate from high school.
  • Only 40% of Rhode Island’s third graders meet this benchmark.
  • Sadly, the numbers are even lower for students from low-income households, with only 25% meeting expectations.
